Last Time We See Witte Road Steep Grade to Black Diamond Mainline Turns and Heads East
The Milwaukee Line pays its last visit to Witte Road about 3/4 mile Sorth of Maple Valley Junction. In this shot facing North, about 1/4 mile South of Witte Road, the line makes one slight left hand turn.
As mentioned earlier, many of the photos do not give the grade its just due, here it is unmistakable. The Black Diamond branch was a steep upgrade climb for several miles. (This shot is a county trail that parallels the Black Diamond line, looking Southwest) Looking South here, the mainline proceeds, turning East and criss-crossing the Cedar River several times on its way to the Cascades. One last shot, this looking back to the North, of the mainline.
