Crossing Under An Old Friend Along the North Side of the Lake Turning South to Black Diamond Nice Residential Corridor
After completing the first stage of the climb to Black Diamond, the branch turns SE and works its way around the North side of Lake Wilderness. Here is our last contact with Witte Rd, as the line passes under the highway and advances toward Lake Wilderness. Looking back to the North, the line swings further to the SE. Running almost due East at this point, the Lake is about 100 yards to the South. A King County Parks sign gives you the lay of the land in the park. As you can easily see, the "Old RR Grade" is now referred to as the King County Trail. On the eastern edge of the Lake, the line turns South, paralleling Hwy 169. This is about 5 miles North of the City Limit. As the line meanders SE, it runs along several upscale residential developments in the vicitnity of 256th Street SE in Unincorporated King County. Looking South, the line in this picture is approximately 1/4 mile North of Four Corners, which is where Highways 516 and 169 cross. Heading downgrade for about a 1/2 mile at this point, the line veered to the SE to once again parallel Highway 169, otherwise known as the Maple Valley Black Diamond Road. As the line continues to the South, the next major crossing is the trestle over the Stampede Pass Subdivision of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
